Collective Worship
Parental Right of Withdrawal from Religious Education (RE) and Collective Worship
At Sneinton St Stephen’s C of E Primary School, Religious Education and Collective Worship are central parts of school life. As a Church of England school, they contribute to pupils’ spiritual development and create opportunities for reflection, discussion and deeper understanding of the diverse beliefs and cultures that shape our community and wider world.
Our Religious Education curriculum is academically rigorous, inclusive and respectful of all faiths and worldviews. It encourages curiosity, critical thinking and thoughtful dialogue. Children learn about Christianity as a living faith, alongside a range of other religions and worldviews represented within our diverse school community.
Collective Worship is a daily opportunity for our school community to come together. It is inclusive and invitational in nature — never compulsory in participation. Children are invited to reflect, pray, sing and consider big questions about life and values in ways that are meaningful to them. We recognise and respect that our families hold a wide range of beliefs, and we ensure that worship is conducted in a way that honours this diversity.
Parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from all, or part, of RE and/or Collective Worship if they feel it conflicts with their own beliefs. If you wish to exercise this right, please inform the school.
We were really happy to have been invited to contribute to the Oak National and Church of England Collective Worships on Courage and on Hope, alongside the Archbishop of Canterbury.
