Attendance & Punctuality

Attendance and Punctuality

At Sneinton St Stephen’s, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to explore life in all its fullness. Regular and punctual attendance is a key part of this journey, helping our children grow, learn, and thrive in a nurturing, supportive environment.

We know that when children attend school regularly, they not only benefit academically but also socially and spiritually, building strong foundations for their future. Each day is a new opportunity for them to discover their potential and form positive relationships.

We are proud of our school’s high attendance levels and are committed to working in partnership with families to ensure that every child feels valued and supported in their attendance. We recognise the challenges some may face but, together, we can support children in overcoming these barriers so that every child has the best possible start to their journey of lifelong learning.

As of September 2024, statutory changes to attendance management have been introduced by the Department for Education, further emphasising the school’s responsibility to work with families to support regular attendance and address any barriers.

Reporting Absences

It is the responsibility of parents and carers to report their child’s absence.

Please notify us by 9:00 am on the first day of absence by calling 0115 9151370 and leaving a message or discussing the absence with our Office Administrator, Tracey Shilcock.

If your child is absent for more than five days, we require medical evidence to authorise the absence. Without this, the absence will be recorded as unauthorised.

School Day and Punctuality

  • The school day begins at 8:45 am.
  •  School gates open at 8:35 am and close at 9:00 am.
  •  If a child arrives after 9:00 am, they should report to the school office.

Expectations and Support for Attendance

At Sneinton St Stephen’s, we aim to:

  • Build strong relationships with families to ensure that children have the necessary support to attend school regularly.
  • Set high expectations for daily attendance and reduce both persistent and severe absences.
  • Act promptly to address any patterns of absenteeism.

Attendance impacts educational success, and we are committed to ensuring every child has the best possible chance to succeed. If you need support with overcoming any barriers to your child’s attendance, please contact:
