Religious Education

In accordance with the Church of England Statement of Entitlement (2019) we believe at Sneinton C of E that Religious education in a Church school should enable every child to flourish and to live life in all its fullness. (John 10:10) and believe that a w ell developed RE curriculum will help educate for dignity and respect encouraging all to live well together.

The pupils and their families can expect an RE curriculum that enables pupils to acquire a rich, deep knowledge and understanding of Christian belief and practice, this should include the ways in which it is unique and diverse. Parents can expect the use of high quality resources, for example, the Understanding Christianity resource. We use the Nottinghamshire Agreed Syllabus 2020 ‘RE For All’ which has recently been implemented. This is a high quality resource that has been developed by Nottinghamshire teachers and religious experts within the local community. It explores world faiths and has a new focus on non religious world views.

Pupils can expect that teaching and learning in Church schools will use an approach that engages with biblical text and theological ideas.

We want to develop a life long passion for learning, exploring life in all of it’s fullness with hope and aspiration through a World Class Education. We live this out daily as our school is part of a thriving, diverse community. We teach high quality RE sessions so that they can connect with their peers, their school community and the wider world. They are enabled to use their growing wisdom, knowledge and skills to question and explore their own religious, spiritual and philosophical way of living. We support our children to learn to a deep level, to know more and to remember more. We want to encourage courageous advocacy alongside character and spiritual development. Therefore in RE, the children will learn about social action and charity. We will therefore be living out the statement that we say in every collective worship “We go in peace to love and serve the Lord.”

Parental Right of Withdrawal from Religious Education (RE)

We believe that Religious Education (RE) plays an important role in fostering understanding and respect for the diverse beliefs and cultures that shape our world.

Our RE curriculum is designed to be inclusive, promoting tolerance, critical thinking, and personal reflection.

However, we understand that parents may have personal reasons for wishing to withdraw their child from all or part of the RE lessons. In accordance with the Education Act 1996, parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from RE in whole or in part without providing a reason.

If you are considering this option, we encourage an open dialogue with the school so that we can understand your concerns and discuss how we might meet your child's educational needs.

To formally request withdrawal from RE learning, please speak directly with our Headteacher, Mr Lowe or submit a written request to him.

We will work with you to make appropriate arrangements, ensuring that any withdrawal is handled respectfully and that your child's education is not disrupted.

We are here to support every child’s learning journey, and if you have any questions or would like to discuss this further, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
